This past Wednesday, we picked up pizza supplies from Pizza Hut for the EPIC students to make pizzas. Alex and I deliver pizzas for Pizza Hut, so we received a paper from Mrs. Amones with all the toppings each student wanted. We delivered the paper to our manager, Antonio. That Wednesday Alex gathered the pizza sauce, Antonio readied the dough, and I got the sausage and cheese together. We took the pizza materials to NPJH where Dwayne was waiting excitedly. He quickly grabbed the pizza bag out of Alex's hand and headed to the classroom. Once in the classroom, everybody took a seat at the table, and we took out the materials. We helped teach the students how to spread the pizza sauce on the dough. Then, we taught them how to apply the cheese evenly. Eventually, they counted off five pepperonis and seven pieces of sausage to put on their pizzas. Each student placed their pizza and waited around 20 minutes. Then, Alex took the pizzas out of the oven and the students devoured their pizzas. After eating, Kameron and I made the coolest marble run ever. Pictures from Wednesday are below. On Saturday, Alex and I went with Avery and Victoria to Main Entertainment for the boys' Dream Day. Dwayne, Kameron, Cam, and Dylan all came to the event. We had an hour and a half of time to play arcade games. I was with Dylan for the duration and played many different games. His favorites were the race car game and the Batman game. We played all five maps on the racing game and Dylan beat me every time! Then, we played the Batman game and beat the Joker and Bane. We all had a bunch of fun!

Since last blog post, we have only visited our friends once. We had a weird schedule last week due to our Senior Exit Interviews. This past Thursday we traveled over to NPJH. It was "Bring Your Kid to Work Day" for the teachers in our EPIC class. First, we helped the students write letters to the elementary students' teachers. I helped Dylan write a letter to a teacher from New Palestine Elementary. Dylan told the teacher all the fun things we had done and were going to do today. After, we sent them using the inner office mail system. Next, we went on a scavenger hunt around the school to work on recognition skills. I was with Dylan and Mr. Bales' son, Eli. Together, we had a bunch of fun searching for different places and items. Then, Dylan and the other students ate lunch. Dylan and I finished off the day making a Santa potato man. It was a great day full of fun!
Once again, Lydia, Alex, and I started a new project. We contacted Mrs. Amones and asked if there was any help she could use in her essential skills class. Now, we plan to go to her classroom every Wednesday. Our first visit, last week, we got to meet her wonderful students. In her class, there is Addy, Dylan, Duane, Jillian, Jenny, Cam, Kameron, and Nick. Lydia, Alex, and I got the chance to sit down and eat lunch with them. After that, we went to the Sugar Creek Elementary playground. I learned that Kameron is fantastic at shooting a basketball. Overall, the day went great!
This past week, we went back to the essential skills class. We started off playing Guess Who, which was very fun. We helped them come up with questions to identify who the person was. Next, we played Chutes and Ladders, which Alex and Dwayne won. This game taught the kids mathematical skills. Also, I played Sorry! with Jillian, Dylan, and Duane. Each day, the kids have free time for a certain time period. I watched Dylan play math games on his computer. Today, animals came and we got to pet them. There was a baby goat, a baby sheep, and chicks. Dylan and Nick even got to hold baby chicks! We plan on going on a field trip with the students to Bradford Woods soon. It has been a very fun and exciting past two weeks! |
